Brown Sugar Scrubs

Brown sugar scrubs are one of my favorite student gifts. They’re quick and easy to make, and the kids love it! It’s also just a really nice gift to get from your kiddo for the holidays or Mother’s Day.

I’ve got a couple of Amazon affiliate links in here, which means that if you end up buying from one of them, they might send me a small commission *happy dance* … but the things I link are also easily found at the store 🙂

What You’ll Need

The ingredients to make this super simple scrub are: brown sugar, vanilla extract, olive oil, and a drop of honey (optional). There was one year when I pre-measured all the ingredients and put them in baggies for my kids, so all they had to do was mix it together. I’ve also done it where I measure with the kids. It’s more fun this way, but it’s definitely easier if you have a parent volunteer or two. If you bring all the ingredients and measure in class, be sure to bring a few different measuring cups and spoons. You’ll also need a plastic spoon for each child and something like newspaper underneath on their desks so it’s easier to clean up afterwards.

In addition to the ingredients, the thing that *might* make this a little more pricey is getting glass jars. This scrub looks really pretty in glass jars. To help save on the dough, you can have students bring in an empty baby food jar ($1 at CVS) or you can purchase jars in bulk. In the past, I’ve bought a class set of mason jars. You can order a pack of 24 little jars here on Amazon.  You can also save by having the kids use those little disposable plastic cups/lids instead of glass jars. Just have them shipped straight to your school to keep it easy.

Step 1: Place 3/4 cup of brown sugar in a jar. (1 cup if you’re using larger jars). Tell your kids not to pack it in. Keep it nice and fluffy!

Step 2: Add in 1/2 tbs of olive oil. You can always add more later if it’s too grainy.

Step 3: Mix in 1/2 tbs of vanilla extract (mmmmm!).

Step 4 (optional): Stir in a drop of honey.

Step 5: Mix everything together!

To decorate: For the cute little design on top, take the lid and trace the outline onto paper, draw on it, cut it out, place it on top of the lid and set that inside the ring. Screw it on and then voilá! You can take it a step further by tying some twine around the jar and attaching a tag.

That’s it! Enjoy!
